Brett’s Thoughts: In many ways, this ballpark speaks to the idea of baseball. It is one of the first parks you think of when you imagine a classic game of baseball. This stadium is as true reflection of the neighborhood and its fan base. They come to the ballpark early and always stay late. This 104 year old ballpark has never looked better and has a blend of modern amenities and tradition.
One of my favorite spots to get a drink is at the Draft Kings Fantasy Sports Zone. When my dad and I visited, it was the Captain Morgans Club, but has since been renamed and reconfigured. To accommodate fans and due to the fact that the ballpark does not have much concourse space, the Draft Kings Fantasy Sports Zone takes you outside of the ballpark onto the sidewalk and allows you the chance to have a beer and take in the neighborhood. If you want a cheaper beer before getting to the ballpark, I highly recommend the Cubby Bear.
When you finally make it to your seat, you can see why it is one of America’s favorite ballparks. The ivy in the outfield, the rooftop seats, and the green scoreboard in center are just some of the iconic shots from any seat in the ballpark. During a night game, the seating area is in the dark while the field is illuminated, making for an iconic scene and increasing your attention on the game itself. It feels almost like a movie. You have the classic organ music, someone singing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” out of tune during the 7th inning (and you’re totally okay with it) and an atmosphere that rivals any others in sports.
If Wrigley Field is not on your bucket list, it should be. There are few places in the world where you can see a game that feels true to the spirit of the game. It is the perfect blend of the past, present, and future.
